Success in 4 Easy Steps
EDT Media has simplified the ordering process for you. Complete retail ready CD and DVD packages are prepared using 4 key parts. If you've got these 4 pieces ready, next thing you know, you'll have product in hand! Let's take a look at the 4 Easy Steps...

Step 1 - Artwork
Whether you are ordering bulk CDs or a full package, there is artwork that needs to be prepared for the silkscreen on-disc printing, as well as the insert/folder/booklet/traycard for CDs and the trapsheet/folder/booklet for a DVD package. If you intend to provide the artwork, please follow the Supplied Artwork Specifications and visit the Graphic Design section of this website for more information. EDT Media offers cost-effective, Professional Graphic Design services and you are welcome to speak directly with a Certified Graphic Artist to discuss your artwork concept.

PDF Proofs of your artwork are recommended. Even the most basic print-outs are also useful for layout and image placement. It is recommended that you send color proofs (even Laser or Inkjet) that you are comfortable with the overall color. Knowing what you have seen on paper and have compared to your computer monitor gives us a first point of reference. Artwork can be supplied to us physically (eg. CD-R, photos, etc.) with your Production Master, or artwork files can be uploaded to our FTP site (please contact us when ready to upload - design@edtmedia.com or 1.800.915.1915 ext.1).

Step 2 - Master
Your master is an extremely important part of the production process. We have a few recommendations when supplying a master for CD and DVD manufacturing:

Label your master. Include valuable information like Artist Name, Title and Catalogue/Selection Number for easy reference in our Production Department. If your master is not labelled and you are not comfortable labelling it, please seal (tape) shut and label the outside jewel box or sleeve.

Track sheets are handy. Many mastering and authoring programs allow you to print off a track or subcode sheet containing valuable information about the data/information on your master. Ask your Audio Mastering or DVD Authoring Engineer about providing this with the master. For audio projects, even a listing of the tracks (in order), with track lengths, is useful.

Don't send your one and only copy! Please keep back-up copies of anything you send anywhere. Besides the peace of mind of knowing you have back-ups "in case" anything was to happen, this also allows you to avoid paying extra insurance, duties and taxes when shipping the materials - courier companies (eg. FedEx) will ask you to 'declare a value' for the contents of the package, and the lower the value, the better. We recommend a $10 value (...assuming you have back-up copies!!)

IMPORTANT Guidelines for audio CD masters:

1. Please submit 2 identical copies of your final master.

2. Please ensure that the master is completely free of scratches, fingerprints and any other physical defects.

3. Please package your masters carefully before shipping them. Do not allow the surface of the disc to be in contact with anything. A jewel box or DVD/amoray case wrapped in bubble wrap is ideal. Please don't use paper sleeves or soft plastic wallet type cases.

4. Please ensure that the length of your master does not exceed CD red book specifications of 74 minutes. Slightly longer CDs can be replicated but may require that you sign a waiver. Please discuss this with your sales representative if it applies to your project.

5. If there is anything about your master that deviates from the original red book audio CD specification please make a note of it and attach it to your master (e.g. CD-Extra, enhanced CD, multisession disc etc.)

6. To avoid potential errors on CD-R masters, please use high quality media (e.g. Taiyo Yuden, Mitsui), a high-quality burner (e.g. Plextor) and software designed specifically for creating CD audio masters (e.g. Sonic, SADiE, Sequoia, Samplitude, Pyramix, Wavelab, Bias Peak). Burn the CD-Rs at the optimum speed for your media/burner combination (usually no faster than 4x or 8x speed).

7. Test your masters after they have been burned, either through a read-back test, a null test and/or an error check using dedicated testing software.

8. Proof your masters by listening to them through in their entirety on headphones.

9. We will replicate your master exactly. Please double check that everything about it is exactly as you intended (including audio, gaps between songs, start and pause IDs, subcode, CD Text etc.)

Step 3 - Paperwork
There are a couple of forms you will need to fill out when placing your order. These forms can be found in the Forms & Legal section of this website. Please submit the following forms with your order:

- Order Form
- Duplication Agreement
- Terms & Conditions
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

If any of the material on your project is not owned by you, copies of the licenses, grants of rights and/or letters of intent and research are required. If you would like to discuss your project in regards to copyright, licensing and public domain, call us anytime at 1.800.915.1915 ext. 1.
